TOURIST BOATS KARPATHOS-DIAFANI

from the  Diafani  A to Z list  of  the website  WELCOME TO DIAFANI  (www.diafani.com)

Morning Tourist Boats :

From spring to autumn two big Kaïki boats usually come up the coast every morning to bring tourists to visit the spectacular hill top village of Olymbos.
They leave the port of Pigadia (main town of Karpathos) around 8.30 in the morning and arrive about an hour and a half later on the small port of Diafani in the centre of the village.

Each boat has its own big bus service to take their passengers up to Olymbos and bring them back down in time for the departure around 4.30 in the afternoon.

To take this service up or down the coast, you can buy a ticket in Pigadia or in Diafani. This service depends on a sufficient number of passengers from Pigadia; check that the service is running.

The Community Link Boat :

There is a new boat service subsidised by the European Community to link all isolated communities to the necessary amenities such as doctors, dentists, shops etc, which they can only find in the bigger towns.

This Kaïki boat leaves from the New Port of Diafani, usually on Mondays and Wednesdays, at exactly 8 o'clock in the morning and arrives in Pigadia around 10 o'clock. You then have a few hours to rush round the shops and get back to the port of Pigadia in time for the departure at exactly 3 o'clock in the afternoon. This boat also usually goes down to Pigadia on Friday morning, but does not return to Diafani until Sunday late afternoon.

You buy your ticket on board during the trip and will probably have to write your name on the list of passengers.
The timetable is usually nailed to the tree outside or near the traditional local Kafeneion. Check for any changes in this community service.

After all the noise and traffic of Pigadia everybody is really pleased to be back at around 5 o'clock in the afternoon in the much calmer village of Diafani.
